Crete According to the Greek Mythology is the home of Zeus, father of the ancient Greek Gods. After a short drive through the town of Heraklion, we will arrive at Knossos. Crete According to the Greek Mythology is the home of Zeus, father of the ancient Greek Gods. After a short drive through the town of Heraklion we will arrive at Knossos. Visit the place of the oldest and largest civilization in Europe which was destroyed by the tsunami that hit the island after the eruption of Santorini volcano. Among them, the Palace of King Minos is the most impressive, with the labyrinth which, according to the greek mythology, housed the Minotaur. Not far from Heraklion, between the mountain ranges of Dikti and Psiloritis, lies the Valley of Peza, home of the wine-making industry on Crete. We may see local vineyards on the way and visit of the village of Peza, where we will take a guided winery tour. We will visit the exhibition, watch a video to learn about the production of Cretan olive oil before sampling some of the local products. Afterwards, we visit Archanes, a small village 10 km south of the Palace of Knossos lovingly restored to its original beauty. This village is one of the most picturesque on Crete and has been voted by the EU as “Best Village Restoration Effort”.
